Meet Ian
Here's the short version of who I am and why I'm running:
I am an Army veteran, an ER nurse, a husband and a father. I am running for the State House seat in 58B to serve and improve our community. My goal is to ensure that the voters in our district are represented at the State Capitol by a voice who hears and responds to the needs of this community. I want to hear from you: what can I do to help you? How can I make your life better? Because that's what my campaign is about, serving your interests and making your voices heard. Recently, it seems like too many people in politics are motivated by personal greed, anger, fear, or grievance. I'm not interested in that brand of politics. I'm interested in moving forward, and building a better future for us, our children, and our grandchildren.
Here's the details:
I graduated from Eden Prairie High School in 2012. I attended college at Minnesota State University, Mankato, where I began coursework in Law Enforcement and Political Science. While in college, I enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Military Policeman. I served on a mobilization to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, which caused me to step away from college for a year. After returning from deployment, I continued my education and graduated in 2017 with a double-major in Law Enforcement and Political Science.
After graduation from college, I spent several years working in hospital security and public safety. I was honorably discharged from the Army in 2021. Working in the hospital setting for several years helped me realize my passion for healthcare, and I returned to school again in order to become a Registered Nurse. I have worked as an ER nurse now for over two years, and I love the work that I do. I have been privileged to serve many of the members of this community while working in a rural hospital. I also met my incredible wife, Brittny, while working at the hospital. We have a beautiful 1-year old girl, Isla, who we are excited to raise in this amazing community. Living and working here has been such a rewarding experience for me and my family. I hope to earn your vote, so I can be a part of continuing to protect and grow our community.
